Halfsies Newsletter #2

Alpha Update 1 has been out for a couple of weeks now and we’ve already gotten great feedback from you guys on what you love, and what can be improved. It’s helped us make some tough (but exciting!) calls about what we’re prioritizing for Update #2:

#1 Less friction during budget set up.

Setting up your budget is one of the most important parts of getting started — and we know it can be a bit of a hurdle. That’s why our top priority in Update #2 is helping you get from sign-up to an accurate Spend amount as quickly and smoothly as possible. Here’s how we’re making that happen:

  • Budget Generation: Using your recurring transactions, you’ll have the option to automatically generate your expense stashes within minutes rather than hours.

  • Creating stashes from transactions: Got an expense that was missed? Just tap on the transaction in your Activity view to generate a stash for it on the spot.

  • Automatic Allowance Transfers: Right now you have to send yourselves allowances manually. With new automatic transfers, you can set it and forget it each pay day.

#2 More flexible options for different budgeting styles

  • Solo Mode: Some couples aren’t ready to pool money. Others are between partners. Some just want to budget individually for now. Solo Mode lets you use all of Halfsies’ core budgeting tools without the couples functionality. No partner tabs, no bill splitting, no allowances - just clean, personal budgeting.

  • Introducing Households (formerly the ‘linked banks’ page): When you’re ready to bring someone in, we’ve made it simple. The new Households page lets you:

  • Add and manage a partner

    1. Connect institutions under the same subscription (after product launch)

    2. Choose which accounts are solo or shared

  • Funding Schedules: In Update #2, look forward to a new centralized “Funding Schedules” page where you can update and manage all of your stashes’ funding from a singular location in just a few taps.

#3 Credit Card Integration (Moved to Beta)

We originally planned to include credit card syncing in this release, but based on your feedback and the complexity of doing it right, we’re moving it to Beta. We want a system that supports every budgeting style, and that means taking the time to research and build it thoughtfully.

Want to help shape it? Email your answers to these quick questions to leah@halfsiesbudgeting.com — I’d love to hear your input.

  • Do you pay your credit card in full every month?

  • If not, how do you decide what amount to pay off on your card each billing cycle?

  • Whose expenses do you put on your card — yours, your partner’s, both?
