Halfsies Newsletter #4
Alpha update 2 (v0.4.1) is out, and it adds quite a lot of features! This update is massive, but Halfsies should feel so much more pleasant - and less intimidating to use now. Here’s a complete list of all the new improvements we’ve been working on.
1. New Login and Sign Up - They flow better and have a bit more personality now :)
2. Onboarding! - New users should have a much easier time now with first time set up! Or maybe you’re an existing user still struggling to get started? Just visit your profile page and tap "Restart Onboarding" to get a helping hand.
3. Improved Account Management - Your Linked banks page is now your Household page. Here you can create and manage your household - consisting of your partner(s) and all of the accounts you budget together. There are better details for institutions and bank accounts - including bank account nicknames! Your partner can now also link their own institutions onto your household as well.
4. Funding Schedules! - Instead of creating funding schedules for every single stash individually, we now have a page where your schedules are saved and can be accessed and easily edited later. This way, if your pay day ever changes due to a promotion or job change, you can edit funding for your whole budget in one place. Your funding schedule page also displays exactly how much is being taken out on each funding date, allowing you to double check that you aren’t overspending.
And one more thing - when you create a new funding schedule, you now have the option to trigger funding with a recurring deposit (IE your actual pay check). This means money will be deducted from your paycheck as soon as it appears - and you should never even miss it.
5. Budget Generation - This is huge! Halfsies can now use your recurring transactions to generate an entire budget for you in just a few taps. No longer do you need to manually figure out what your recurring expenses are and create stashes for every single one. Just tap "Generate Budget" under the “read more” menu in the budget tab (the three dots), select from your list of recurring transactions, set a funding schedule, and watch your entire budget be created for you. Getting an accurate Spend amount has never been so easy!
6. Easier Budget Maintenance - When creating a stash using “Generate Budget”, that recurring transactions you choose will be used to assign your stash automatically in the future. That means less rifling through your activity section assigning expenses manually! You’ll also notice that when you go to assign an expense, you might get a pop up asking if you’d like to “auto-assign in the future”. This only works for recurring expenses, but it should save you quite a bit of time and hassle!
7. Solo Mode - If you have a bank account that you don't want to share with your partner, you can now change the budgeting mode to “solo”, and we'll remove all partner specific features in the budgeting interface for a cleaner screen. You can switch an account to solo by visiting the Household tab and tapping on the bank account you’d like to change.
8. Scheduled Transfers - Now transfers can be scheduled between both virtual accounts and stashes, and looped in with your funding schedule!
9. Create a Stash Presets - You can now choose if you want to create an Expense, Goal or Fund, and Halfsies will provide you with a scaled down CAS form that walks you through that process. Or if you prefer the old way - you can still choose to just let us sort it for you.
10. Generate a stash - When you swipe to assign a transaction - you might notice the option to “generate a stash”. This is another Create a Stash shortcut that will use your transaction data to fill in the stash details for you. We’re telling you, setting up your budget has never been easier.
11. Loooots of bug fixes - Like seriously…a lot.
That’s all for this time! The Beta test is next and set to launch the end of October! There’s still plenty of space - so if you’d like to join in, go ahead and click “Join the Beta” up top. Have a great August! :)
